Default A/C and Electric Fan

I'm a new owner of a '00 Cherokee Sport. The shop were I bought it replaced the evaporator since it had a leak and installed a new fan since motor was bad. The A/C isn't as cold as I'd like and the fan doesn't run full time with the A/C. I'm told the '00 and '01's are wired differently so fan only kicks on above 300psi. (the shop uses AllData as source of tech info) I'm considering running a manual switch.

Regards,

Dave

There is a good write up on a manual switch floating around here, try the search function. On my 00 xj my problem was the radiator cap.

is the switch it self bad,it should be located on the thermostate housing,if it does not close when it is suppose to,it will not come on.

Default Suspect but don't know

I suspect my fan is not operating either and will just have to pull over on a hot day to see?

However, I have been told two different stories about this fan.
1) The fan comes on as soon as the AC is turned on and or when the engine reaches a pre-determined temperature.
2.) The fan turns on only when head pressure is high at the compressor and or only when engine reaches a pre-determined temp.

No one can seem to find a factory statement but these two mechanics swear by what they say.
Anyone actually know which if either is accurate?

Oh no, swearing mechanics..........

It's been post numerous times direct from the Factory Service Manuals (use the search function) that on '99 down XJs, the efan turns on when the compressor engages OR when coolant temp reaches X degrees. On '00 up XJs, the efan turns on when refrigerant pressure reaches X psi OR when coolant temp reaches X degrees.

I wonder what made them change that for 2000 and 2001?Id think the fan coming on when the ac does would be better.

Why turn the efan on when it doesn't need to be on?

I believe the FSM says efan on @ 223* coolant temp on '00-'01 XJs. Remember, 210* is normal operating temp so why have the efan on when all is normal. LOL, I'm just kidding.

just replace the low speed fuse with one of the same rating (30A) as the high speed fuse. Easy peasy. And yes, the AC System works better at low speeds with fan on high, especially here in AZ.
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to .....
