It's a 2000 sport. I put a new rad cap on and I think it stopped the bubbling sound when I turn it off. But I am sure it gets hot after I turn it off, beacuase if I try to turn it on 5 minutes after getting someplace it gets hard to start. The fan does not come on with the a/c, that is my problem.
Are you guys sure it's the relay? I was quoted $80 for the original relay! And $35 dollars for a replacement at Autozone. My fan works when it gets over 220 but it is not starting with the a/c. Please help!

Thanks for the diagram, but my a/c clutch and low pressure switch are fine. The a/c in my rig works great. I just don't know what's happening at the cooling fan relay (not ilustrated in the diagram) because I believe that if the cooling fan relay was fried the fan would not receive any current. Unless the fan receives voltage on another circuit from the temperature sending unit.Originally Posted by mike37
not the same year but maybe this will help

i just wired mine to a switch saturday and its the best thing i ever did! it dropped my temp 5 to 10 degrees! i live in alabama so it can get up to over 100 degrees no problem every day! so it helped alot having it on all the time then turning it off when i shut the xj off, oh and you wont forget to turn it off you can hear it runnin inless your deaf
I know about the switch and it's a good idea, but I started this thread because I wanted to know why my fan does not turn on when I turn on the a/c

Wait! Here is your answer. In 2000 they changed when the elec fan came on. It no longer turns on whenever the a/c is on, only when the temp surpasses 210, around ~212-215. Nothing is broken, I thought the same thing after I sold my 98 and started driving a 2000. The FSM for your year should affirm this.
To test, take it for a long highway drive to get it good and warm, then stop somewhere and let it idle allowing the temp to start to creep up, the elec fan should come once the temp is high enough and then turn off once the temp goes back down to 210. trust me. thats what it is.

good to know cause i have always wondered why it would not come on when the ac came on like everybody elses did know i know thanks and i think i wil still wire a switch in to turn it on when ever i want Originally Posted by FLAXJ

i know mine comes on when on the trail sitting for a while but not when the ac was on so it is nice to know its not serious but i got a thermostatic control unit that lets me wire it to come on when the air comes on and it will let me set the temp i want it to come on at so i can get it to come on when i want when done Originally Posted by anojes
