Looks like I will be using this stuff soon. Been debating on whether to use Royal Purple or Amsoil. Ppl I know swore by RP that it also helps improve gas mileage but at around $20 a quart, I think I'm going going to try Amsoil first due to everyone's good reviews with it on the XJ and I don't hear much about RP from ppl here.

I had a Miata that had RP in all the boxes since new. Had 46,000 miles on it. I always felt the shifting was notchy for a Japanese trans so I drained out the RP and put Amsoil in. I had a bunch of it left over after selling my towing business. Notchy shifting went away immediately.

The best stuff I've run in manuals has been Castrol Transynd. Nice smooth buttery shifts. Dex/Merc compatible.
Of course you DO get funny looks pulling up to the Allison shop in a widdle 4-wheeler.

I actually have Amsoil in the AW4 of my MJ. Had that left over when I sold the business and figured why not use it up?

Amsoil marketed like AMWAY, TUPPERWARE, MEADOW FRESH, BEST WAY, "LADIES PLEASURE" and other "here today gone tomorrow schemes." Multilevel marketing schemes - sold by the party method or in dark alleys late at night.
"WANNA BUY A GOLD WATCH? FRENCH POSTCARDS?"
We need to all get together and sell a product - ROYAL GREEN LUBE AND OILS.
We'll all get rich. Buy cheap oil, add green food coloring to it - charge like it's made of gold.
It works for RP!
To be legal we just need a few testimonials - sounds like you guys will give them.
Once sales are up a little, we can have it made in China so Wal-Mart will carry it. Next thing FRAM will want to buy it.
We'll all get rich!

"""""Amsoil was never multi-level rich. """""
It certainly was multilevel marketing - I knew several people that were selling the stuff trying to get others to sell it for them.
The hype was if you got others selling it for you, you'd make commission on their sales.
The NAPA store that sells it - most NAPAS are independent - they can sell what they want as long as it doesn't compete with NAPA products. They can sell cheeseburgers if they want.

I run Amsoil in my transmission, differentials and transfer case.
The debate with lubricants has gone on forever and will continue long after all of us are gone.
Amsoil manufactures a fine product. I could give a rats *** less about the marketing.

Typical of outfits like that.
They'll lie about selling direct to stores, fleets, bigger accounts, etc, they say they don't, but "backdoor" their dealers and multilevel people. Sometimes at a price below their "dealers" - but sometimes if you check, the 'dealer" gets it for less.
When caught they do a dance, lie more, then cut out the little guy in favor of the larger account.
They don't have trouble finding someones else to sell the scam. They promise huge profits to the next guy.
And - usually the multilevel guy with sales people under him has to stock a huge supply of the product. Then they cut him off, he's stuck with a few years of product.
My wife knows a lady with a garage full of AVON. She dropped out when she became crippled. They won't take it back, they just say "sell it!"
Ask who sells AMSOIL on the TJ board, several people do.
Just another kind of snake oil sold by a different method
The deadliest snake in North America is the Mojave Green rattler. Looks like a Mexican Brown rattler, but bright green!
Maybe our green oil should be called Mojave Green oil? "Deadly to engine wear?"
When a company lies about the way it markets, what makes you think ANYTHING they say is truth?

-ok yer herpetology references are a mess, but i think you are trying to say that either amsoil isnt worth the price-for performance value, or you have been burned by mulitple pyramid schemes. what pray tell, without the "marketing mumbo",is your preferred lubricant of choice?
