Default AMSOIL

Does anyone know anything about or use AMSOIL products?
I noticed on the TeamCherokee parts site (where they sell alot of OE parts cheaper than you can find them on ebay), they have a whole entire section devoted to AMSOIL.

You can't do any better. I ran a fleet of big trucks on their oil along with a supercharged Miata.

W-stev29, I copied this from your post and sent it to everyone in my contacts list.

Common sense dictates that if all "pro-gunners" were as violent as "anti-gunners" say they are, then there would be no "anti-gunners" left.

Thanks.......that's good to know. I was looking at replacing my front and rear diff fluids when I found the AMSOIL page. Everything is working fine but since the XJ is new to me, I don't know when or even IF the fluid has been changed.

Ok, here's a stupid question: I know the rear diff needs the SLIP LOCK friction modifier. Would I be correct in thinking that the front needs it as well?

No modifier needed in the front diff and probably not in the rear if using Amsoil.

The reason I ask is, under the description of AMSOIL Synthetic Severe Extreme Pressure Gear Lubricant 75W-90 Cherokee & Comanche 1984-2001, it has this......
WE ALSO RECOMMEND THAT YOU PURCHASE THE AMSOIL SLIP LOCK FOR ALL LIMITED SLIP & LOCKING DIFFERENTIALS. THIS ADDITIVE IS MANDATORY FOR ALL LIMITED SLIP-POSI TRACTION & LOCKING DIFFERENTIALS.

I've never seen it stated that way. I love it.

In my rambling I sometimes come across very smart sounding comments.

If AMSOIL was so good - why is it only sold in back alleys? Seems like ligit retailers would carry it.

I'm kinda biting my tongue because I've commonly run Amsoil in eaton posi's without the LS additive, because the combo allows the clutch plates to slip too much. It is entirely possible to "modify the friction" to the point where you essentially have no limited slip left. Add a couple bottles and see what you have left for breakaway torque.
No chatter, banging or groaning around corners and you're doing fine. But in the interest of not voiding anyone's warranty, or contradicting the manufacturer's instructions....I'll go back to tongue biting, lol.

That's been my experience also. Hence my initial suggestion not to use it.

My Napa carries it. There's not a huge profit margin in it and probably not kickbacks and incentives like other products offer parts store. It was originally set up as a dealer network for regular folks to make a few bucks. It was also available if you sign up as a fleet owner. That's what I did when I had my big trucks. We could get our oil analyzed for free and I ran amsoil in my Kenworth for 44,000 miles before I had to do a complete drain due to contamination from a failed injector. Was never aimed at chain stores.
