Not having a cat(or something that looks like one) is illegal in all 50 states.

Its a no no on the boards too lol...Only offroad rigs can run without one.

Yes, it is illegal to remove the cat. It is against federal law. It's a no no on the forum to discuss the removal of the cat, but seeing as how you did not remove it, the mods may leave it alone. Either way you should have it replaced so the emissions system on your Jeep will function properly.

All vehicles 75 and up are required to have a cat. Only 74 and older are exempt.

It actually states that any vehicle manufactured with one from the factory must have one. It does not differ from on road vehicles to off road vehicles. Meaning that even on trail only vehicles, they are required if they were manufactured with one from the factory.

X2. Even if you are offroad, you are still creating exhaust. And excessive pollution with no cat.

Put one back on there, please. We will ALL breathe easier.

i do believe that you guys are wrong on the law being in all 50 states here in michigan its legal to have it removed. You just can not have it done by a shop and a shop can not do any work in front of where the cat was and this was right from the mouth of an exhaust shop owner and employees at a few others

State laws are overruled by the federal regulations on the removal of the catalytic convertor. It is against federal law.
