Are all 8.25s equal?
If I recall correctly, there are some Chrysler 8.25s that are better than others. I know 29 spline is the best but I'm not sure how to test it (UPDATE: late 96 through end of production were all 29 spline) and I'm not sure what other things to consider. What else should I look at when buying an 8.25? What about c-clips? Can someone give me an education? Also, while I remember reading this on the forum a while back, I simply could not find it when searching. I'd happily take advice, read links, and/or get flamed for asking a redundant question.
Thanks,
s
UPDATE: Found this thread I was thinking about and yoke style does not reflect the different spline count.
Also, this thread has tons of useful information and I may have just answered my own questions after just a little more research.

Automatics and manual transmissions have different gear ratios. So that's something to consider. Manuals are 3.07 while automatics are 3.55

I wasn't aware 8.25 had different yokes but 97 and newer (basically newer body style) and I believe some 96s like you said can come with 29 spline too. You've got the right idea the only other thing that can vary that is important is gear ratio of course.

I didn't bring it up initially because it is a draw to the 8.25. Right now I'm rockin' the 35 in 3.07 variety and I'm happy to be prospecting for an 8.25 in 3.55 with the ring and pinion for the 30 up front (that will be another thread post soon I'm sure).
So the only 2 factors I need to consider other than wear are the spline count and the gearing?
