ha! I logged on to ask just that! how to turn my stereo into a mono?

do I wire them in parallel? in series?

(ps if I did get a cheap aftermarket radio.. and an adapter plate to fill
the dead space .. would I still be able to use the factory 6 CD changer?
Its plenty for me.. I only have 5 CD's )

Also.. I hate that the antenna comes up when on CD. Thinking of wiring
a simple cutoff switch somewhere.. to kill the antenna.. is that easier
said than done? I mean.. it needs power to go down, right?

On my 91 there was a fuse for the power antenna. Let it go up and pull the fuse.

Either way, you're stressing the radio. If you put them in parallel , you cut the speakers impedance to 4 ohms. If you put them in series you changed the speakers impedance to 16 ohms. The output of the unit is designed for 8 ohm impedance.

But hey...it's half shot now...right?

btw, did you try twisting the volume control back and forth real quick a bunch of times? There's little wipes inside the control. When they get really dirty, they don't "make" the circuit anymore. I don't have the radio in front of me but, If you can see inside the unit, maybe shooting some contact cleaner in any opening towards the front of the control and then do the twisty thing. 50/50 chance it'll work.

bob, thanks.
Which do you think would be "less stressful" 4 or 16 ohms? 1/2 dozen one / 6 of another.
What if I put a 4 ohm resistor in there?

The radio has no turny *****.. its ALL DIGITAL -- i mean, it *IS* a '98 afterall. hah.

On the bench it'd work Put the speakers in parallel and then throw a 4 ohm in series. But I'd just make it 4 ohms and just don't over drive it (make it so loud your ears bleed)

Too bad....mine had a ****. But mine is a 98 Sport so there's a lot of lower grade options in it.
