96 XJ Fuel Hose Clamp Question
Hi, I'm new here. Sorry for any mistakes. My beloved 96 Cherokee Country with around 275,000 miles developed a fuel leak at the worst time. This is the first time it has stranded me in 8 years of loving it. I found a guide posted by user xjobsessed that shows me everything I need to do to fix my problem. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/le...nt-fix-170244/ It involves replacing the front metal fuel line with a nylon fuel line.I have all the stuff I need being shipped to me, with one exception. I had a hard time finding an auto parts store that was selling the required 5/16 fuel injection rated hose clamps or they weren't shipping them. Amazon has them, but they have a long shipping delay. I eventually found some on o'reily's but they only had a single 1 star review saying that they were not actually 5/16. So, I decided to buy the 1 star fuel injection clamps and some regular worm screw clamps. My question is if my fuel injection clamps are the wrong size like the review says, is it possible to use the regular clamps? Here's where i'm coming from, I really need my Jeep right now. I have to be able to get food/supplies and get to an up coming doctors appointment. I know that the regular clamps have 3 major issues, they have a flat spot near the screw that can cause bunching or an air gap, they can damage the hose due to over tightening, and they are prone to corrosion. With this in mind, is there any way this would work temporarily until I can get proper clamps? Perhaps If I used two clamps at each connection and was careful not to over tighten them? I wan't to get my Jeep running but I will not put my self or others in danger if this is not safe. Thank you for your time.

I had the exact same problem and used 4 genuine Jubilee clamps, two at each end with a 90degree offset between each member of the pair. It has been tight as a drum since the summer.
In your position I'd install the clamps you have, dry everything off with a rag and then start her up and watch for leaks.
It might take a bit of time to build up confidence but I'm sure you'll be OK. If in doubt check after each drive until you get sick of it!
I did use Stainless clamps to avoid corrosion but even the cheapest steel will get you to the doctors and last until amazon deliver.

Not sure if the clamp on mine at the pump is original or if it was from a fuel pump replacement back about 18 years ago. It is a screw/scroll clamp, the clamping part is still pristine and the screw is looking pretty cruddy. Anyway, it holds fine. That is the style I had both sides of the fuel filter too. Just replaced the filter and had to cut one off.
New clamps I have on there now (haven't changed the one by pump yet) are the O'Reilly ones and they are looking good too. Used nickle anti-seize on the new ones, should cause less galvanic corrosion than the aluminum variety.

Hey thanks for telling me this, it made me more comfortable. I'm normally fine with the good enough approach when it comes to repairing my old jeep but some things freak me out, like fuel or brake problems. I'll be sure to put the right clamps on as soon as possible.
