Default 96 Rear passenger door won't lock

When I got the Jeep a few weeks ago the door would not open inside or out. So I took off the door panel , and without doing anyhting but opening the handle a few times, the door now opens. BUT.... Now it won't lock! and this is an issue as teenagers have been robbing open vehicles in my nieghborhood lately. You can't even manually lock the door bc it looks like someone glued the switch? You can see some residue on top. Does anything from these pics look out of place. Also has these 2 red wires that look wonky. Just need to know what I need to get or do to make it lock. Thanks

The residue may be old grease.

Get some brake cleaner and old rags. Clean the all the handle and locking mechanisms thoroughly, including down near the door latch area. Get some good spray white lube, and lube everything well. Operate everything several times, and spray again.

This should free everything up.

Is the lock button suppose to have a rod or anything attach to that hole in pic one?

It shouldn't be hard at all to tell what's broke or not working right. You need to unlock and lock many times....watch the moving parts. Track down one that's broken or where the moving parts stop moving. There's only so much going on in the door. I recommend cleaning and lubrication like mentioned above. Sounds like something is broke. Need to pinpoint what it is. If all parts move and you can't see anything broke or not moving then could be door actuator.

That's just it, it will not lock, power or manual, haha. I thought it would be obvious as well. Hope I can find a replacement today...
