Question Various Jeep problems abound...

Hello, everyone.
I'm neither new to Jeeps nor this forum, but I finally decided to register and get some help with my ol' tin can.

My Jeep has been loved the past two years, but preventitive maintenance had not been performed on it for the four years before that. Sure, the oil was changed, but the love stopped there as far as my dad was concerned. Things were replaced as they broke: water pump (no surprise), clutch (had 160k miles on the factory original). I have fixed things as soon as warning signs manifested: motor mount, u-joint (saturday), broken door welds, new exhaust, injector cleaner, etc. The time has come for me to address some things that really bother me about my reliable old Jeep:

1. Rattling coming from valvetrain's vicinity that sounds like a rocker trying to bust through and escape. Manifests at startup, recedes after warming up, and returns adter dricing for a while (twenty minutes or more).

2. Oil in my airbox, which originates from an L-shaped piece of plastic originating from the valve cover, runs through a foot long plastic tube, and finally leaks into the air filter. Dude at autozone said it was NOT a PCV valve like I thought.

3. Black, slightly greasy buildup on the throttle body's butterfly valve.

4. Creaky clutch and a loudish *click* that occurs halfway through the clutchpedal stroke.

5. The need to start replacing all those little cracked and split rubber discs in my suspension/steering linkages (are they grommets, bushings, or what?).

6. My rear doors don't like to open from the outside (no, they're not power locks or windows, because the more electronics your vehicle has, the worse off you are).

I sure would appreciate any solid suggestions that work.

Thanks in advance.

Rob

For your item 2 on the list, i recall watching a video on youtube where a guy was doing some preventitive maintenance and gave the fix for that. i believe it had to do with something clogged inside the valve cover. i will try to find the video again and post a link. Hope that helps, i'm new to the jeep community so i don't have much advice on anything else.

I've noticed this post has quite a few views, but only one person has replied back, do you all need more info or something?

Could you elaborate further on the paper clip trick? I tried a pair of pliers and it wouldn't pop out...

Get Seafoam deep creep spray and blow it through the throttle body, then the Seafoam liquid through your vacuum hose off the brake booster, 1/3rd in the oil and the rest in your gas tank. You'll be amazed

Will the seafoam fix the valvetrain problems?

If the valve train issues are due to deposits on them it will. Either way you will see improvements in the general running state of your truck.

I'm not much for manufacturer claims, but this stuff does what it says it will do. Check out this link: http://www.seafoamsales.com/tech-info-gas-engines/

What about marvel mystery oil? I just bought a quart yesterday, put a little in my gas. Haven't noticed anything yet, but only put twenty miles on it. Haven't heard anything bad about it, but people are skeptical whether it actually works...

I've never tried that so I couldn't tell ya...I can tell you that the Seafoam worked so well I think I might buy stock in the company.

Btw, I regularly use Lucas Oil fuel system treatment and my current batch of oil in the crankcase has lucas oil stabilizer. I'm at 3400 milesand need to do the oil change. Should I sea foam the crank?

The build up on the butterfly is easy stuff. Like the other guy said seafoam or generic throttle body cleaner. Just spray, wipe, repeat, until it's nice and clean. You can use a toothbrush but I just used paper towel. Just don't drop anything in there!
