My 1996 Cherokee has started dying when I let off the gas peddle. It doesn't always do this and when it does I can start it back up with no problem. Aside from body damage it has no other issues. If it starts to die and I can push on the gas it will be fine.
I'm not sure what the problem is.
Any ideas?

It sounds like that you may have a fuel delivery system problem. I would start by checking the fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a mechanical pressure gauge.

The #1 cause of stalling on the 4.0 is a marginal battery. And yes, you CAN have a battery that is strong enough to start the engine, but marginal enough to give the engine management system fits and cause stalling.
Have your battery LOAD TESTED. Any parts store will perform this service for you for free.
Yes, it could be something else but you really should start by verifying your battery.
Good luck and keep us posted!
