Default 95 Cherokee no power when turning key HELP!

Does any one have a diagram that includes splice locations for a 95 cherokee 4.0 auto? I need to follow the blue wire coming from the ignition by the key to where ever it goes. Theres a short in it somewhere I think so I'd like to start at the splices before I start blindly cutting apart my wiring harness. The jeep wont start unless I run a jumper wire from the blue wire to the auto shutdown relay under the hood. Could this be bad anything other than a short in the wire? I tried putting it in neutral and tried moving the shifter back and forth thinking it was NSS but no luck. Thanks in advance!

If you don't have the FSM, you should get it. The 95 manual is a combined one with the YJ and XJ. It will have the wiring info, splice locations, etc.

http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com/1...ce_manual.html It's not free, but worth every penny.

Dark Blue?

According to 95 FSM it utilizes fuse 17 (7.5amp) at the fuse block. The diagrams on the older models are a little harder for me to understand. But make sure to check that fuse before digging in too deep. As with most of the fuse block items it also goes through that main C201 bulkhead connector (the back of the fuse block that goes through the fire wall). I would want to inspect that before tearing any harnesses open.

Thanks! I checked all the fuses with a test light since I don't have a layout but all the fuses were good. Does the wire stay dark blue through the connector? Also I was looking around under the dash and found another relay block that I don't know what it does, it has a few open spots could this have anything to do with it??

Thinking about it a few fuses didn't light up when hit with the test light and I just assumed they were things that weren't turned on but I will check the 7.5 amps for power tomorrow after work. Hopefully the problem is between the ignition and the fuse block but I never seem to get that lucky.

I tried looking around the FSM a bit more, but there is no easy way to convey what I'm seeing. I think the only thing that would help would be to point you in the direction of getting your own 95 FSM.

http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com/j...e_manuals.html

Based on what I see though, I would think that the continuity of any of those wires could be tested without pulling the harness apart. That dark blue wire seems to only see one splice, and it is deep in a major run of the harness. I just don't see why it would fail there before failing at the fuse box, the fuse, the ignition switch, or a connector.

If you get the document I linked, the page you are looking for is 8W-61-5

It would appear the dark blue is circuit A21 and is power in run and run-start positions on the ignition switch. It appears to go from there through splice S203 where dark blue continues to 7.5amp fuse #17 and comes out as white/black over to the door chime buzzer module. But at the splice A21 also becomes DarkBlue/Yellow on its way to the power distribution center under the hood where it powers both fuse 11 (15amp) and 12 (10amp).

Have you ruled out a bad ignition switch or ignition switch connector?

Hi sorry for delayed response, the most I did to rule out the ignition switch was I unplugged the connecter to the ignition and then stuck paper clips into the power in and the blue power out and the took another paper clip and put it in the starter yellow wire and touched it all together. I have done this before with a different part out jeep and it worked then but it didn't work this time. I also tested the power in paper clip for voltage and it showed good power but when I touched the power in and power out it immediately dropped to basically nothing. I now have the factory service manual I went with https://cardiagn.com/wiring-diagrams-xj-yj-1995/ because it was free but seems to be accurate just confusing as hell haha. Im off tomorrow so hopefully I will have some time to dive into the jeep.

Sorry for delayed response I posted yesterday but for some reason its not showing up. Anyway I got a factory service manual now and it seems to work just confusing as hell. To test the ignition switch I unplugged the wires that go into it and then stuck paper clips into the power in and blue power out plugs. I put my multimeter up to the power in side and it showed good power but when i connected the power in to the power out it dropped to almost nothing which made me think there was a short.

With key in run position confirm power in and out at all fuses. Could just be bad switch.

Alright I'll go check that in a few. When it put the key in the buzzer does work but that's about it. My gauges don't work, a/c heat doesn't work anything. It seems like unless the Jeep is hotwired to the asd the key doesn't do anything because with it hotwired they all work
