Default 94 cherokee shifting problem

Okay!

So I have a 94 Cherokee 4.0 with the AW4 trans, and I don't have any slips or hard shifting reverse works as should. My problem is that i am not starting in drive when i am in D i have to manually shift though the gears.

Any suggestions?

Only 143k miles changed the oil and filter and that did not help.

I'm not sure I understand the problem...It's not starting off in 1'st gear when you put it in D? What's it do, start off in 3rd?
If that's case, it's an electrical problem. No power to the TCU, solenoid harness problem, etc.

TCU is in the photo below. I can't remember if you have an inline fuse to it or not. Take a look.

Regardless, do Tip 10 at www.cruiser54.com.

Did you check for power at the TCU? Check the inline fuse? See Cruiser's pictures above.
