There are probably more oil threads than any other topic. Search is your friend. And you need 6 quarts for the 4.0 engine.

And another good site to research oil and filters is "bobistheoilguy". Here's a link. Check out the oil forums specifically.

Best price point on oil filter will be a Purolator Classic. Spoil it with a Purolator Gold, or WIX.

Oil? Summertime: Shell Rotella 15W40. If your engine doesn't leak oil, I suggest Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic. I have had good luck with most major oils, but the 4.0L will thank you for the extra zinc/additives in the diesel oil package.

Consensus is to avoid FRAM oil filters except in dire emergencies and temp use only.

Grabbing some popcorn now..

There should just be a program that automatically closes these threads and redirects to Google.

I only run home made snake oil. My neighbor presses it, he gives me some when I need it in exchange for the wife cleaning his living room once a week. She spends a couple hours over there but my engine really loves the oil so I know it's worth it!

As for filters, Melitta has a great bamboo unit in #4 size. Really clean.

...

There's a thread on oil in my signature. Give it a boo.

I use the same oil. Snake squeezins keep my engine happy. I grind the snake's livers into a paste and lube my suspension with it.

Oil filter brands easy #1 Wix #2 NAPA Gold or Silver made by Wix.

As for oil it depends on what its going into I use Rotella in my XJ and all my Diesels everything else gets full syn Castrol except for my race motors and I use Mobile 1/NAPA NASCAR Racing Filters (Wix) in them because I have a sponsor for the oil and filters.

FYI WIX's "racing" versions are junk for street use. Specifically model designations like 51515R, the "racing" version of 51515. It's several times LESS effective at actual filtration, instead prefering higher flow/lower restriction. I think the micron rating is around 50. Baad idea for other applications!

Rotella T6 5w40 and a Ford FL-1A filter for both the 88 MJ and 00 XJ 4.0's

They live happy lives, I don't like snakes so avoid the snake oil, I prefer to listen to old wives tales as an entertainment source instead.

Rotella (which one depends on your local conditions) and a Wix or Napa Gold (re-branded Wix) filter.

The factory put oil in didn't they? I'm leaving the OEM stuff alone.
