Fram's higher-end filters (or at least one of them; I never remember which ones are which anyway) have actually been found to be quite decent. Maybe the ToughGuard is one of them. Hell, for all I know, the orange can has been improved and isn't garbage anymore. All I ever see is people repeating the same-old Fram bashing, and I never see any actual up-to-date quality evals. If all we ever do is repeat years-old assessments of a product without checking once in awhile, we'll never know if the product improves. Likewise can be said about the good products in the event they drop in quality like Purolator P1's did for some sizes for awhile at least--their filter media was tearing often enough that you'd think it was their job to rip. Luckily some people were paying attention and noticed that they weren't doing so great anymore. I haven't checked to see if the problem has been addressed yet or not since I've switched back to NAPA/Wix.

I wouldn't patronize any company that sells such crap as Fram, knowing good and well that their product is inferior, regardless of the "new and improved" item they come up with. They are a company only out there with hype and a product proven to be only crap. I have no use for them. The number of available XJs and MJs now was impacted by their total disregard for Jeep owners IMHO.

I'll play the game. I use 5qts of Lucas and used filters I get from the local lube shop...superior oil pressure( salad loves this stuff). On a serious note, I use mobil one full synthetic oil. I flip flop with filters. Motorcraft, wix, AC Delco (for my gm fleet) Mobil one if I'm feeling fancy. Oil weight depends on a few things, mainly your current climate and use of the vehicle. Mileage isn't actually a huge factor anymore as most modern synthetic oils have better seal additives than conventionals. OP it really comes down to what you are comfortable using.

Spoke too soon. Tough Guard is the reasonable one. It's Extra Guard that's the OCOD.

Which, for reference, gets dissected on a regular basis. Ask Dumajones for a link to his video showing the bypass valve.

Ticking time bomb...

A fair point. As long as they knowingly sell garbage, their good stuff can be as fantastic as possible, and I still would never support them on principle.

As long as someone is paying attention, OK. I fully admit that I haven't been which is why I'm careful not to poo-poo a product as being bad just in case it actually isn't anymore. Not surprised to find out that the orange can is still garbage.

Lol I love reading the different comments, especially when people are rude.. But I love seeing all the different opinions on it all and different standpoints. It's nice to hear pros and cons of each

We're on the same page.

Wix has always provided good filters. They've never tried to hoodwink us with marketing crap. They deserve our business.
