Default '93 4.0L timing, possible issue

'93 4.0L, AW4, 2WD XJ with 167K miles. I'm having an issue with the 4.0 struggling to rev past 2K. I believe it might be a timing issue, but, not sure. The distributor was taken out then put back in. I'm not exactly sure if it might be off a tooth or not, but, I thought if it was off that much, it wouldn't run at all. It does idle. I've tried to search, but, it just keeps throwing my searches back at me with nothing. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

What happens when you try to rev past 2K? Any chance your cat is plugged?

I would think you would get a check engine light if you were off timing?

It could be the dist. But remember your ecu can.make up the difference up to a few milliseconds on its own, usually if your off by more it wont start period. Id check your tb/ butterfly, manifold bolts, cat, fuel pressure

If in doubt, use this:

When I rev it past 2K, it stumbles, but, still runs, almost like a rough miss. I did forget to mention that the Jeep hasn't run in 2 years, so, the fuel filter might be the issue. I'm going to replace that, can't hurt, and then run some fuel injector cleaner in the tank, and see where to go from there. Thanks, guys!!

Add some rubbing alcohol to the tank too, it will remove moisture from the gas

Verify your plug wires are in proper order.

Was the motor brought to TDC on compression stroke when dizzy was dropped in?

Rubbing alcohol is 70% water...I wouldn't add that to the tank. HEET is a better choice if necessary, although most gas has alcohol in it now anyway.
