Default '91 XJ ABS Woes...

My wife's XJ has an ABS braking issue, where the brakes lock up, get spongy, and feel fine, all in the same outing. I hate ABS, especially the crappy system that Chrysler tacked onto this poor thing. I want to eliminate the system totally, so that will mean a trip to the boneyard.

Has anyone ever done this and what do I need to grab from the donor vehicle?

TIA!

After some more research, I've found that this era ABS system really sucks. It seems the ABS pump, made by Bendix I believe, has some real problems and is very prone to failure. It is a $1200 unit, but supposedly has a lifetime warranty on it... which means a trip to the local dealership. I shudder at that thought... God knows what they'll "find".

So, I am gonna take a stab at converting it to standard brakes...

Please let me/us know how it goes cause I'm interested in eliminating the ABS. Until then, how did you extend the ABS brakelines, if your XJ is lifted?

Grab a dual diaphram Master Cylinder, reservoir, proportioning valve, & hardlines from a '97+ XJ.

^^Actually using Franks idea is the best.

I did a write up in the tech section some time back when I converted my 89 ABS to 90 Power Brake. Its a easy conversion and cheap too.
