I might verify the oil pressure, do a compression test before taking things apart. Or if just canning the FRAM does it Cruiser's gonna do a backflip!

Oil pressure is good. Once it got to the rockers it was squirting everywhere when I gave it gas. Going to pick up a new filter today. Will let you guys know.

It's up to us to KNOW who designs theit oil filters for specific applications and pays attention to quality first, not bean counter's wishes.
The thing about oil filters is, since you are not seeing their performance reflected inside your engine, you develop a "brand loyalty" due to advertising budgets.

No luck with the oil filter fellas. Got everything pulled apart and ready for the cherry picker. Going to put it on the stand and pull the head. Have it checked out. Camshaft reground. Timing chain. Lifters and pushrods. Hopefully I don't run into any other major issues when I pull the pans and covers. Should I go with a Mopar or AMC color? Black is just too plain. I bet If I cleaned off all the dirt it would run like a champ. Will keep you posted on progress with pictures.

One issue is the drain-back valve. If a filter that leaks is on an engine and screws up, to install, (like my Scout II IIRC), or even horizontally, maybe not so much a big deal. Since the 4.0 filter screws down, if that valve does not hold, every cold start-up needs to fill the whole filter before oil goes into the engine.

So with good oil pressure it still takes a few minutes to see oil at the rockers....keep us posted!
And bummer, I wanted to see a vid of Cruisers dog's face while he did a back-flip.
