90 Cherokee fuel pump ballast resistor wiring route
Anyone on here have a picture of a diagram or can explain where the 2 fuel pump ballast wires are supposed to run into and where it receives power from. my resistor is not getting power when i release the key from the start position. i have a wire ran from the resistor to the battery to keep it running which im sure is not good for it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe power to the resistor is fed from the starter relay on the passenger fender. No clue why they put the resistor over on the other fender though. The other wire goes directly to the pump. (Picture stolen from https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/no-...tarter-256310/)

Same problem
I know this thread is over 2 years old but I’m having this EXACT issue. My vehicle would start and stall immediately. I tried so many things until finding out this was my issue. If I run power to my ballast resistor from the battery it works. What do I need to replace or fix to get it back to normal? I don’t want to have to keep hot wiring it from the battery?

Check the fusible links near that starter relay. Do you have power to the resistor with the key on? Does it matter which side if the ballast resistor you're connecting the power too? Might be a bad ballast resistor, and you might as well just eliminate it by connecting the two wires together. Later years don't have it, and it's only there to reduce pump noise once the engine is started.

i have found out that my starter relay IS bad. Wasn’t getting power to the terminal that my ballast resistor goes to. And my ballast resistor is good. Just not getting power with key on.

so I got the new relay, put it in, and I’m still not getting power to the ballast resistor terminal on the relay
