Default Ballist resistor

Well guys,

My 89 cherokee 4.0L had some trouble yesterday. Was firing up and shutting back down right after and I knew right away what it was, the little porcelain piece with two prongs. Went to my napa and they were the only ones who A.) knew what it was and B.) had two available. Threw a new one in and hooked the wires back up, but one of its wire connectors is kinda junky and falling off. For now it's on the and I electrical taped it for good measures but could I take the connector off and just wire it to the prong or get a new connector for it? Or get rid of it? Idk I don't like the thing but any suggestions would be great thanks.

Mike

Jumper the 2 wires together. See if the fuel pump is too noisy for your liking. If not, return the resistor and make a permanent connection for the wires.

Yeah cruiser I did notice that the fuel pump is quieter? If that makes sense. Also sounds dumb but if I do choose to make the permanent connection how would I go about doing that? Also why does it make the fuel pump noisier or quieter if that makes any sense at all, I did notice the difference in sound though.

In the Start position of the ignition switch, the fuel pump gets about 12 volts to it. In Run, the power gets diverted through the ballast resistor and reduced to about 10.
