What is a good spark plug wire to buy. I bought some NGK wire set and they are junk. Are the universal ones you build yourself a better choice or premade.

What's wrong with the NGKs? I put a set from United Auto Products on my '88 back in 2020. They have worked just fine. Don't recall where I got them but they are available on Rockauto.
If you don't mind fiddling with the connectors, the build yourself allow you to route the wires the way you want without any excess for a cleaner install.
