88 renix- o2 sensor cross threaded like a beast put it in
new to jeeps. bought 88 renix in nice condition, still it needs a lot of love. im trying to get it to a fully functional stock condition b 4 upgrading. o2 sensor crx threaded and was forced in so hard that it came out with no trace of threads. im assuming ill need to tap a new hole in the exhaust. im seeking any tips, first hand knowledge, opinions on mods etc. before i pull the exhaust. i dont wanna do this more than once.
my connector was broken and wiring would work loose, vehicle would stall completely and not start. is that dramatic effect to be expected when o2 sensor is off line?

Welcome! Cruiser will be along at some point. He is going to start by telling you to do steps 1-5 in his tips. Right on top of the link in my Sig are links to his tips, then below there is more Renix stuff.
My Jeep ran pretty much fine with a stone dead 02 sensor. (the ECU then just uses "suitable" defaults). Idle fluctuated. I believe it's threads are the same as the Ford large stile spark plug. For that I think Harbor Freight sells a "thread chaser". Sort of like a tap, that might help you out there. While you are at HF, keep in mind you can't do much with a Renix Jeep without a digital volt meter. Even the cheapo $5 one will work, at least for a while.
With (only) our 87-90 Renix Jeeps there is a simple test for the CPS, (you need a DVM)....For the moment and for fun. Next time it stalls and won't start, unplug the CPS connector, and plug it right back. Bet it then starts. It's rear of the manifolds, a three wire plug with only two wires going down towards the bell housing.
Left front wheel off, with the axle hanging cuz you jacked up at the body/frame makes access almost easy. Pulling the airbox is pretty easy and allows access to all sorts of stuff.
Please fill out what you can in your info. Threads get long, and having your info right there matters in lot's of ways.
