Will a power steering gear box, pump, and hoses from a 98 grand Cherokee fit my 87 cherokee?

I've found it's not smart to disagree with Cruiser. But. I wonder if there were changes to the pump more often than the box? No idea really.

 

Same saginaw gear in the GC up through 1998 as in the 87 Cherokee if the remanufacturer's part numbers can be trusted. (they're the same part number). Pump is not the same.

 

I had read elsewhere where somebody had done a gearbox change and people were saying that it would work as long as you used the newer hoses. Metric vs standard. The pump is still on the engine but at a quick glance it looked like the same reservoir. I figured if I used the entire setup that it might work. Oh well. My gearbox has a little freeplay in the pitman arm shaft so I got happy thinking I had done found me a free replacement.

 

Pete, he came up with an "AD", not an "AC". Any thoughts on that? ($22.75)

 

Yes. Buy it and install it on your Jeep.

 

I ordered it a couple hrs ago. Bookings OR. dealer can have it shipped to an affiliate dealer here in CC by the end of the week. I also have the Bosch# 280 155 746. 19 Lb, (with the clip-nut slot, unlike the 700's), Volvo injectors coming tomorrow. In the name if science I can't change both at the same time!

Well it's been almost a month and still no miss since switching over to Chevron gas. I dumped a can of seafoam in on the last fill up too.
