Yeah most Auto parts stores that do have the grease able ones have the ones with the fitting in the cross. I personally just buy the AutoZone Brute Force/Gold ones that aren't greaseable and use my needle fitting to change the grease in them to a moly synthetic grease. Never had them wash out.

I will definately look into swapping out my ujoints. but what also concerns me is that I will hear a constant rubing or grinding noise while i'm driving in 2wd. it's real slight but if I have the window rolled down I can hear the noise. could this be my hub bearings and how would I know if they are bad while i'm inspecting them?

jack up the tire and try and shake it there shouldnt be movement if it does move your bearings are probably starting to go but the rubbing could also be your brakes if they arent properly blead or the caliper is hanging up a little

I checked to see if my wheels moved at all while jacked up and they didn't. they felt real solid. also I just replace rotor, and brake pads. Breaking seems to be great and the caliper fits in there real snug. not sure what you mean by hanging up.???

If its a bad ujoint you will still hear it in 2wd.

I have a awful grinding noise in the back, driving in 2wd.
Have not tryed 4wd, to se if its the same.
No sound when i start driving, but just after a little while, when it gets warm.
Do you think its the wheel bearings

If the u joint is greaseable then it has a channel running through it for the grease to travel in, thus it is hollow and not as strong as a non greasable u joint. It is just common sense.

Jeep Guy the unit bearig will have some play in them when the wheel is jacked up if they are worn or dry.

Yeah, I had the same problem. It is the front axle u-joint. You should probably do the bearing as well. Don't forget to replace the old cotter pin with a new cotter pin when you are finished. And you will need a 36 metric socket to get the spindle nut off. A three legged puller is nice to get the hub assembly off too. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Also, if you are using 4 high in 4X4 I don't think you are suppose to be turning too much. You will hear grinding from this. Regardless of the u-joint problem. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I don't even separate the hubs from the stubs. Just pull the whole thing out and swap the joints then put it back in.

Unhappy An update with a question.

Yesterday I had every intention to replace the wheel hub bearings and the u joints. I took off the wheels and inspected well with a mechanic friend of mine and they were all good. we then notice on the passenger side the cv joint was broke. which created noise while driving, hitting a bump and I suspect is my problem with the 4wd. here's the question. I looked on ebay and other online parts stores and I am finding two different parts. one which has the cv joint connected to the driveshaft which is like $200. the other looks nothing like what I have in my jeep and it runs like $69. all I need is the cv joint and not the entire driveshaft. where can I find what I need? please help!

here's a picture of what i'm looking at. this is the cv joint right?
