4lo Launch jumped timing?

Me and my buddies got a little routy around the fire and next thing I know were in my jeep doing 4lo launches I know its not the brightest thing but hey it was fun! but after my last one I came to a stop and it stalled out I just thought hmm that's odd no big deal then I started it back up and its sputtering and missing like a ***** I took the dizzy cap off and aligned the timing mark on the balancer and my rotor isn't pointing at the no.1 cylinder its a few teeth off, so then I popped that sucker out to see if the sheer pin could of gave way and its still good and intact the only thing I can think of is the engine jumped a few links on the timing chain

What do you mean "the no.1 cylinder its a few teeth off"?

You need to determine if #1 cylinder is at TDC compression when the damper index mark is on the zeo (0) mark on the timing chain cover. With the marks aligned it could be on #6 cylinder exhaust or on #1 cylinder compression.

But you're right, the timing chain may have jumped, especially if the chain is pushing 200,000 miles.

I know how to time the distributor what Im saying when the rotor should point at the no.1 cylinder dizzy cap post its at the 3 I used a poor description sorry, the distributor isn't off a few teeth the timing chain is off which makes it seem as the distributor is timed wrong. Im just wondering if the timing chain could really jump off time from doing launches and all that stupid stuff

What year is your Heep?

THere's a procure in the FSM to check the valve timing which would show if your chain jumped, or you could bend over and drop your drawers and pull the timing chain cover and check it out.

Taking out the timing chain isn't hard to do so I ripped her open and come to find out the roll pin that lines the camshaft sprocket up had snapped and it spun which caused the timing to be off, Ill post pics but I bought a new timing chain and sprocket set before I put this new engine in my sexjay but the cam sprockets hole in the center was much larger than the original stock sprocket so the bolt that ran through didn't have all the faces of the bolt on the hole just the outer rim, So I think that the bolt got squished in the larger hole and the roll pin was taking the whole force of the camshaft spinning causing it to snap. So im just simply putting the old cam sprocket back on with the smaller hole I already checked and they are completely identical with the timing marks.

I was curious about what year your Heep is because in '99 they (Jeep Gods) switched over to a thrust plate at the front of the cam to take the place of the POS spring and pin set up. Nothng to do with the timing chain set...

Its a 89 which has the Spring and pin, but now I know what the problem was just got to go get a roll pin and put her back together. Thanks for your help though!
