You do know #1 is at 5:00 as viewed from the side? (not where the books show it)

You forgot the comma, after "so". ...

Cool, just checken...what with the book wrong. I wonder if there might be a clever way to watch the rockers through the oil filler and check for jumped time....Beyond me at the moment...

I would consider doing a compression test.

BTW, I love 4Lo pulls haha. Raced an all-wheel drive BMW of some sort from a light in 4Lo a few weeks ago, it was dead even until I ran outta gear lol

Spun 180 would be a problem but it also wouldnt run if it did. Start from scratch, make sure the timing marks are lined up on the gears when you put the chain back on. Then set your dizzy timing. If its still funky you have another problem.

This is from a '94 FSM but probably pertains to your year 4.0.

Double check the distributor install.

Of course you know that timing mark on the crankshaft will appear in that spot (pic) twice in two complete revolutions of the crank (720* to fire all cylinders) once at #1 and again at #6. You need to see if the distributor rotor is pointing at #1 when the crank timing mark is there.
