4 wheel light stays on ?

My son has a 90 xj ,he went wheeling and after words he put it back into 2 high and the part time light is still on ,any thoughts on how to turn it off ?

Drive it in reverse 25 yards or so.

X2 I hear reversing helps get it outta gear and in gear

the 90's have vacuum driven 4wheel drive so they can be temperamental going back into 2hi.

I have to back up a couple feet to get it out of gear.
