33's Stock Gears?
I always knew I was going to swap axles so I never wasted money regearing and I have run 31's, 33's, and 35's on 3.55 gears and when I wheel, I wheeled hard every time and I drove it hard every day when I did drive it. To say you can't drive it on stock gears with 33's is crazy. Of course you can...it will just be a little slower at pick up, but will have a higher top end. End of story. Yes, it will put a little more pull on the trans but the AW4 is a bullet proof trans that can take it. If you feel it will get too hot, put a trans cooler on it to help keep it cooler. Yes, your MPG will decrease a little bit, big deal it is a Jeep not a Saturn. Half of the posts in this thread are pointless in my opinion.

arbs f/r = $1500
install labor = $600 (@300 per axle)

I’ve been running 33” with 3:55 for close to a year with an AW4. My mileage dropped to about 12.5 MPG but it will still cruse at 80 MPH. The only time I have had any trouble is off road on a long steep climb, 30 to 35 deg. It’s pretty close to maxed but the low end grunt of the 4.0L really helps. Some day I’ll re-gear but until then, no worries.

Check for a tag on the axle or pop the cover and divide the number of ring gear teeth by the number of pinion teeth.
I've not heard of ANYONE that will set of gears for less than $500.00 an axle here. I don't know if it is a regional thing, but that is the cheapest I found it, and $500.00 was a GREAT deal compared to some of the prices I found!!

what do you mean it will have a higher top end? if you're saying your acceleration is better top end than it was before, you're mistaken badly. that's a bigger wheel/tire that's a TON heavier than your stockers. adding that much mass at teh end of the axle just puts a ton extra stress on everything. there's no way it accelerates quicker top end lol. that's rediculous. think of hiking, and then throw a 50 lb backpack on. it's going to slow you down
No, it'd be perfect, IMHO!!
