well, you can start by changing your diff fluid. when you're in there, clean the inside out with some brake cleaner.
then, along the edge of the large ring gear, there is a series of numbers. there should be a set of 6, then 2 separated by a hyphen and 2 more.
take those and divide them. so for instance, 45-11 would be 4:09, or 4:10

That's fine because the more you post, the more you look like a moron, in my opinion.
Top end speed, not acceleration. Of course the top end acceleration is going to be slower.
what do you mean it will have a higher top end? if you're saying your acceleration is better top end than it was before, you're mistaken badly. that's a bigger wheel/tire that's a TON heavier than your stockers. adding that much mass at teh end of the axle just puts a ton extra stress on everything. there's no way it accelerates quicker top end lol. that's rediculous. think of hiking, and then throw a 50 lb backpack on. it's going to slow you down

I forgot to mention one thing here, Speed. My best RPM's were around 1900 at 60 MPH. 2500 for around 75.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with everyone that says that it will be fine for the time being. Yes, it may be a little slower than a stock setup but not everyone has the cash to regear. For example my friend has an 1980-something f150 on 42s. He's running the 4.11 gears and that thing is still a monster (he abuses it every chance he gets). Sure he gets like 6 mpg but if he wanted an economy car he wouldn't have a lifted truck. He's been driving that way for 4.5 years now and still no problems. I think 33s and 3.55s are ALOT easier on a transmission than 42s and 4.11s IMO.
okay, well lets say we did it the other way around. ive just added an 89 xj to my fleet of vehicals and this thing is bone stock and in excellent condition. I plan on a 4.5in lift and 33s but i would prefer to have the xj setup to handle the 33s first. Problem is, i dont have the extra cash to do the gears and 33s at the same time. So how would things be if i get the gears 1st and run them with the stock sized tires until i can pick up a set of 33s?

what they are saying is that you can turn them but without gears your take off will be like 0-60 in 3.2 days and your gas mileage will be dented i would suggest gears unless you live on flat lands and dont do alot of offroading
