Default 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport - Start Issue

New to the Jeep scene. Just picked up a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport with an I6 4.0L (about 160K miles). Jeep will start and run fine with no over-heating, leaks, check engine lights, or battery issues. After driving it until it warms up or letting it idle until it warms up, I shut it down and will not start again for at least 10 minutes or so; almost like something electrical overheated.

After a day or so, the check engine light came on, and I pulled a P0432 code. Probably needs one or more O2 sensors, or maybe a cat.

No worries there, but the main question is could this start issue be related to the code? It has a brand new battery and after about 10 minutes it starts up fine multiple times with now issues.

I think you may have two problems.

One is the no start when hot. Camshaft position sensor is a possibility here as if it fails when it gets hot, the engine will continue to run with the last cam sensor input signal. But when you turn it off, it won't start as it needs a new input signal from the cam sensor and it is faulty.

The other problem is your P0432. Most likely a cat. Here is a link that explains it.

Awesome! Makes sense. Had the exact same thing happen on my BMW a few years ago; was never explained to me that way though. Thank you for the quick reply! Will check it out and follow up.
