Default 2000 XJ Sway Bar Bushing Question

Hopefully someone can help me out.

The front sway bar bushings on my XJ are shot, and as I have found out, you need to know the diameter of the bar in order to get the correct bushing (24mm, 26mm, or 28mm). I don't have a caliper, so in order to get the bar diameter, I did a hack job of putting a C clamp on the bar, and then measuring the gap. It looked like I needed the 24mm bushings. Bought these, snapped them around the bar, and the two halves were nowhere near touching....maybe a half inch space between the halves. There was no way the bushing bracket would work over these.

I return these and pick up the 26mm. Snap these on the bar, and again, the halves aren't touching....maybe 1/8th inch or so gap. In my head, I imagined that the right sized bushing would close completely around the bar and fit snugly. It seemed like these too were too small, so I brought them back in (thank god this was all done in the Advance parking lot) for the 28mm ones. These fit completely around the bar, but with a gap of a couple mm between the bar and bushing. Obviously too big.

This is a longwinded approach to my question: Should the right sized bushing have a little gap between the halves befor the bar mount squeezes it together (1/8th inch-ish?) I'm pretty sure my bar is 26mm but when it looked like that 26mm bushing was too small, I was confused. Thanks!

Just took my front bar off 2 days ago and replaced it with an ADDCO bar 1.25".

The stock bar measures 1.0" or 25.4mm.

There are different sizes on different Jeeps. You need to measure your own. Also this thread is over a year old man...

right on, thanks for the input. I picked up 25.5mm should work perfect. Is there a certain cut off age of when not to reply to post?

Searching is fantastic, but It's good forum etiquette to not bring old threads back from the dead. Sometimes hijacking the original poster's thread is a problem, but frequently people from the old thread just aren't around any more to answer your question.

In this case I don't think CF could get rid of cruiser if they tried! :P
