My son's best friend and my unofficial adopted son has a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited. His driver's window is stuck half open/half closed. When operating the switch, there is no sound from the motor or movement within the door cavity. He stated that it "just quite working". I checked for blown fuses in an effort to grab the low hanging fruit, but with no success. I have read post where a plastic piece commonly breaks causing the assembly to not properly function. I do not believe that to be the case as, previously stated, nothing happens when moving the switch. The other window operate fine from the same driver's side window switch panel. Is it possible that there is a broken connection? Do these switches have a 19 year life span? Any direction you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated as I am tying to get this repaired for him before he returns from visiting my real son at college.

Pull the door panel off and check for power at the motor, to see if it is getting any. If you have power getting to it, but nothing happens, the motor is shot. Or it could be a little corrosion in the connection. Here are some videos if you need to dig deeper as they cover common failures.

 

Thank you for the helpful links. I pulled the door panel today and checked for power at the motor. There was power in the up and down position of the switch. So, he is in need of a new window motor. I suspect we will try to source the new motor locally. Thanks again for your help!

 

I got one at our local You Pull It yard for my rear window. My rear passenger window wouldn't do anything so I pulled a regulator assembly (with motor) at the same yard. When I pulled it out of my rig I found the cable connections had broken at the gear box.
