Default 2000 Cherokee 4.0 Stalling-- First time its happened

Just noticed when I got the mail today when I got back in my jeep the check engine light was on. Noticed the oil pressure was a little low. About 10 psi. Drove it to my driveway check engine light turned off so I parked and turned off the car. Just thought it was a fluke. Same night drove to the grocery store and stopped at a stop light. No sputtering, oil drop, or low rpm. CAR DIEDS! Not a clue what happened. Restated fine and drove home. First time this has ever happened. Its always idled a little rough since when I first got it. Has 120000 miles on it, and oil pressure fluctuates from idle to when im driving but noting uncommon, between (20-60psi). What could this be?

Absolutely. The strategy for a check engine light is always the same. Pull the code. You'll need either a code reader, a scan tool, or take your XJ to a place like Autozone who will read the code for free.

Post the code(s) here for comment. Use the technology provided to you by your Jeep. Anything less is pure guesswork. The fact that you have symptoms and a code is not coincidental.

X2. From description it sounds like the iAC but that's the beauty of a vehicle, it can sound like one thing and be another.

Post some codes and well help ya out

Would check the code, but the check engine light went away immediately as soon as I parked in my driveway. Haven't seen it on again.

The code should still be stored in the computer so you can check it. But from your description it sounds like the IAC..

Check this thread out... If you haven't clean your Throttle body this could be a good place to start.

Any check engine light will set a code as mentioned. It's in there. You just need to read it.

My 2000 Cherokee came with a headgasket problem and would not idle when I first got it. Owner told me you had to hold the gas down to start it, as if that was normal. Without disassembling anything except the rubber hose to the air cleaner, I sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle boddy and into the idle bypass ports. Instant fix, was idling within 10 minutes. Also dumped a bottle of injection cleaner into the tank, and after the headgasket was fixed, the idle quality improved considerably over the next 600 miles.

Good luck!

Steve
