I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport! It has the 4.0l! is there a locking device to lock the front axle? On my 85 Cherokee its all vaccum to lock the front axle! It seems like the front axle is dragging on something? Any advice?

Try and describe your problem a bit better. This isn't very descriptive.

Its jacked up right now! Is there a vaccum line that locks the axle like the 84 Cherokee? the front drive line is off right now and when i crusie about 30 or so and let off the gas it seems like the front axle is locked up or dragging but i can spin it! Maybe the brakes calibers? How does those front ends lock?

Brake Caliper, is it pulling to one side or the other? To answer your question NO there is no disconnect on the 98.

the front has 2 solid shafts, not a solid and a 2 piece shaft. it is always engaged, it is your t-case that disengages

Sweet thank you! You guys answered one of my questions! I bought the truck off a guy and he said the transfer case was locked in four low so he look the front drive shaft off but the t case is good! guy was trippen! But the first time i drove it the front end would just drag when i let off the gas! so imma look into the brake calibers!
