Good luck with your question. You helped me figure out mine!

The 96-99 used the 0630 head and a distributor. The 00-01 used the 0331 head and the distributor was replaced with a cam synchronizer.

Thanks. Someone has mentioned that some of the late '99's had the 0331 head and I'm not sure if the one I'm looking at falls into that category. I have a pic of the engine, but of course can't see the casting number. But I can see the distributer with a standard cap and wires on it.Originally Posted by fb97xj1

From what I’ve read the late 99’s had the coil rail. I’m sure you’ve read that too. The parts are incredibly confusing on the 99s because they did seem to mix and match some things. I struggled with the build dates for all of the 99s. If I knew when the first 99 rolled off the assembly line it would’ve helped me determine if mine were an early or late build. Can someone get you the build date off of the door for the one your looking at? Are you able to get the VIN? You can email Jeep and get the factory build list. Not sure if it’ll have all the info you’re looking for but it’s worth a shot. Originally Posted by Old Man Minimalist

Sorry to ramble, just trying to help.

I appreciate the help. Mine doesn't have the coil pack. I'll get a build sheet with it. I read in a few other places that if you have the 0331, you have the coil pack so I'm going with it. If that turns out to be wrong and I end up with the 0331 head, I'll be okay. I plan on a complete rebuild of the engine anyways at some point.Originally Posted by drjeepsmith
