1994 Jeep Cherokee Se 4.0L Won't Start
Hi All,
I'm in posession of a 94 Jeep Cherokee SE 4.0L5 speed with 213,000 miles...A new alternator, water pump, spark plug's, rotor cap and spark plug wires where put in before I drove from Northern Mass. To NYC. with no problem. From NYC to NJ and back..No Problems...I even drove to work and back...No Problems...One day I went to the car and it started and shut off, and wouldn't start again. I purchaced a Airtex fuel pump, strainer and Fuel filter and had the car towed to the mechanic...they installed it and told me it was running. The day picked it up and drove it for about 2 miles and parked turned it off and went upstairs, came down in about 3 hours it wouldn't start....Had it towed it again and it stayed with the mechanic for 2 days...they said the Airtex was defective, and they don't ever recommend them...any how I returned the Airtex and brought a Bosch fuel pump and strainer and had that installed...picked up the Jeep and it shut off after drving about a mile. I was told it could be 1. Ignition coil 2. Crankshaft Point Sensor or 3. Oxygen Sensor.....Can anyone give some help??? I am at my wits end. Thank You

No I didn't rule out the fuel. I still a little less than half a tank. I went out late yesterday to try a start it, after to tries it started and shut off. The engine will turn but won't start, and it's jot a coughing sound.
The mechanic so call check the codes and he said nothing came up. I started up today and it ran for a good 5 mins then shut off. Yesterday it start and it was aboutto shut off, and all of a sudden the idle went up then shut off.

You need to verify if you have a strong blue spark. Any other color can give you a problem keeping it from starting and running right. Also check if you have the correct fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a mechanical pressure gauge. Your 94 should have 39psi +or- 5psi. You should also clean ALL of your grounding points. One bad problem can cause a lot of problems. The grounds are the battery terminals, battery to fender, oil dipstick, 2 on the coil, rear of the head to the fire wall and the one many over look is the mounting area between the starter and the engine block. Once you have checked those things we can go from there.

This needs to be done. Because if your mechanic cant pin down whats wrong theres a good chance he cant check codes ! It very simple to do.......

I had error codes 11 and 24....11/crankshaft point sensor and 24/throttle point sensor. I change both of them and have not had a problem.
The crankshaft point sensor requires patients and
cursin on occations. You have to use a 7/16 socket for top and bottom. I used a 7/16th ratchet wrench for the top bolt, and a socket wrench with at least 13 inches of extention....also knuckle attachment.
I would suggest putting the bolts in the same way you took them out.
Thank You All again.
