Yes.. you read that right.. I am not insane.. LOL!. My question stems from something I was doing today that had me a little concerned. After watching a YouTube video on a trick to remove the front hub nut by dropping the TC into 4L, I figured I'd try it as I am in the process of changing my Hubs/U-joints.
So I removed the Left brake rotor, jumped in the Jeep and put it in 4L, expecting the front diff to lock-up enough to keep the wheel from spinning... and... nada.. left wheel spun just the same. So I put it into reverse... nada.. still spinning...drive.. still spun.
So after using another technique (jam screwdriver into rotor) I manged to remove the nut anyway, and pull everything out.
I have the 231 TC, Part-time 4x4.
Am I missing something or am I just not understanding how it all works.. thanks. I was under the impression that by putting it into 4L it would lock the front diff.
Thanks

I just did the same job, Changed ball joints and u-joints plus hubs. I did the 4-L thing and it worked perfect for me, Axle stopped turning and hub nut came right off,,
Maybe you have an issue with that side or the 4x4 itself.. Not sure,
Wait and See what others have to say...
Good luck,
Ant...

Try 4hi. Maybe your tcase was still in neutral from it not being adjusted. I always use 4hi instead of 4lo. Transmission should be in park.

Yup... both were off the ground. Ok.. chalk it up to learning more and more about 4x4's. I was under the impression the unit would be locked even with both off the ground.
I have to admit, I know 100 times more than 1 month ago thanks to the folks on this forum!
Thanks again guys.
