I am asking because I have the Haynes Manual for my Cherokee and it says that all Jeep Cherokee models covered in the book (including 1992 Jeep Cherokees) are frame on body. I'm confused now. It looks like a unibody vehicle to me when I crawl under and look at it... should I have bought a different book?

Mine also has the ugly flat rims with holes in it. Hard to describe, but I am sure you guys know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure if that means anything. When I pull the VIN it comes up as a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

How difficult is body work to do on the Cherokee? Also, it's only got some minor rust on it right now. I'd like to keep it from getting worse. What can I do to stop further rusting until I can afford to have the thing painted?

Grind off the rust and primer/rattle can it if needed. Depending where the rust is and how much, you have several options. google search helps also

use rust killer paint, you can get it from any parts/paint store. but first sand it down i wouldn't use grinder. they scar stuff easy. sander has more finesse to it.

If the Haynes is anything like my FSM, then it also covers the Comanche pick-up truck. That's prolly what the are referring to when they say body on frame.

Body work is about the same on the CHerokee as with any other vehicle, I'm guessing. Even with zero experience I have done minor body work - and you can't tell.
