Nice article freegdr, makes me glad my .3 ACV is still maken it through! By the way cruiser, took me exactly 3 minutes. Popped the hood, unplugged the connector, clipped on the wires to the CPS, reached in and cranked it. .3 AC Volts off a CPS I installed last century? 10 years anyway.

my 90 is the exact same way. the only thing i havent replaced yet is the fuel pump, even with a new ecu it still cranks for a couple seconds before starting.
might be something you'll have to accept as it comes with owning a renix.

It's never gonna wick off like most fuel injected vehicles. Nature of the beast.

The CPS bypass was needed more on the 87 and 88 models because of the dreaded C101 connector. I believe the procedure by Chrysler was a band-aid for low output CPSs and resistance in the C101. 89 and 90s didn't have nearly the resistance as the 87 and 88s.

We used to test for AC voltage at the dealership and if it was .3 or lower, it got modified to put out .5. It seems that .5 will be enough to get through most of the average resistance in the harness, especially the 89 and 90s.

If you have an 87 or 88, I advocate cleaning out the C101 connector. This was recommended by Jeep back in the day also. The CPS signal is only one of many that can be reduced by the resistance in the C101.

On the firewall above the brake booster is the C101 connector. The two halves are held together by a bolt with a 7/16 or 11mm head.

CPS output voltage is supposed to be at least .5 AC volts. It's not uncommon to get off the shelf CPSs from the parts stores that only make .2 volts. Therefore, your Jeep doesn't start and you start looking for other things that are not wrong with your Jeep.
