1990 Pioneer - Alternator caused Starter + Starter Relay to go bad?
My girlfriend passed out while my 1990 XJ was idling.
When she woke up about 2 hours later the car had died.
No burnt smell, oil and coolant were fine but the car wouldn't start back up.
I first replaced the starter Relay which was bad (not sending power to starter), but I wound up having to additionally replace my starter to get the car to start.
I currently have my alternator unplugged in fear of this happening again (just charging the battery to test start). I don't see how the starter would cause the car to die in the first place?
Do I risk this happening again if I plug the alternator back in or should I just go ahead and replace it?

I guess I spoke to soon. I managed to get my voltmeter on the alternator hot to the ground on my battery and it is reading 14V.
I am at a loss as to why the car died in the first place is all - The starter/relay wouldn't cause the car to die would they?

I do not see a scenario where an alternator can cause a starter relay to fail while the engine is idling. At idle, the relay is doing absolutely nothing. It is only when you turn the ignition to "start" that the coil is energized and the contacts close. The starter and it's solenoid are also doing nothing while idling.
I can only guess what happened, or could have happened, if the vehicles's only occupant lost consciousness while the vehicle's engine was running. Perhaps a running vehicle isn't the place to pass out? You might have been fortunate it shut down and wouldn't restart.

Spark plugs are probably carboned up and shorting out. Did you try ether or brake cleaner to see if it's got spark? Is it out of fuel? Stupid question. 14v is not that high. Mine runs around 13.5v most of the time. All 14v will do is get the battery hot enough to evaporate some electrolyte. 2 hours is a long time to just sit and idle, but police cars do it all the time.
Try the scenario again under controlled conditions. watch the gauges with the alternator working and see if you can re-create the problem. I'll bet it just got loaded up and stalled.
