Default 1989 Laredo Headliner sagging.

Just thought I'd start a new thread on headliners.

My vehicle is a 89 Cherokee Laredo.

Heard several people out there are having the same problem with the headliner.

Mine has a few small tears in it and I think it can be saved (?).

It appears that the whole headliner is not attached to the roof in the car.

It use to hang down over my head, but I put a safety pin in right over the drivers seat.

Wonder if anyone ever figured out how to save the old headliner and reattach it to the roof inside the car?

Then again, I wonder what is under the head liner and if I tore the whole thing off, if it would look ok?

Anyone ever tackle this problem?

I feel like I have this tarp hanging over my head.

Thanks!~jretzky

Easy to remove and instal. Just make sure you use good glue. I use the 3m spray adhesive.

So is there something underneath the headliner that can be taken out?

I was wondering how to glue it.

It appears from your picture that there is a some type of hard board that the liner is glued to and then the whole thing is installed into the roof (?).

Thanks!~jretzky
PS. It looks like any material can be glued on.
I have used 3M adhesive and your right it's good.

I took my entire headliner board out, ripped off the fabric, sanded off the excess glue and foam with steel wool, the green scouring pads (greenie weenies) and sandpaper, then some paint thinner to clean it up good. Then I bedlined it, it's on a 96 and it looks great! Or you could paint it with anything you want, just don't skimp on the prep work. It comes out nice. The picture is of my interior after major rust repair I did myself, I don't have any pics of the headliner though, but the bedliner looks nice on the headliner.

I redid mines with actual headliner material.

Just be sure to use the 3M adhesive meant for headliners.
This is the one I used.
3M 38808 Headliner and Fabric Adhesive - 18.1 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive 3M 38808 Headliner and Fabric Adhesive - 18.1 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive

There are a few of them that work, here's another one that I used to bond some bubble insulation to the roof before the headliner.
3M 08090 Yellow Super Trim Adhesive - 19 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive 3M 08090 Yellow Super Trim Adhesive - 19 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive

Just be sure to read the label, ones that definitely don't work actually say "Not for automotive headliner use" or something like that.
