Default 1987 model, Im thinking about removing the AC

Hi again, this forum has already been extremely useful. I have made use of several old posts and several 'sticky' posts.(Got my power locks and power windows working like new...well not new but working pretty good. Newbie tip....spray some lube into the plastic guide tube when the window is down. that black tube inside the door panel. that made a HUGE difference in mine.)

My Jeep has factory air that does not work, and I don't know why. i also don't care why. This is my 3rd vehicle in the fleet, and it is nothing more than a work truck and go camping car. I don't need air conditioning. I rarely even use it in my daily driver Toyota. That said, what are the reasons I shouldn't remove all the AC components? Including the coil thingy under the dash. To me its just a bunch of junk in the way.

Unless you have the idler pulley for a non A/C XJ, you will need to leave the pump in place. The evaporator in the dash HVAC unit shouldn't bother you at all if you leave it. You might get better cooling with the condenser removed from in front of the radiator.

And the idler pulley mount is very hard to find. Wish I'd never thrown mine out when I put an a/c compressor in for onboard air.

leave it installed, that is the low cost, zero time way to deal with it. I say it aint worth the effort to remove it, and may well lower resale value.

I removed my compressor in my 01. About 2 years ago when the freewheeling pulley locked up...put the bypass bracket in..no issues on that end BUT the next winter, i would run hot because the condenser would never get warm, and all the slush and snow would build up on the condenser face and block airflow to the radiator. Removed the condenser...no cooling issues from ice buildup any more since all that stuff would now hit the hot/ warm radiator and melt
