Hi all-

My 2000 XJ Classic will not start. Battery good and charged. No noise, no clicking, no lights, no horn, etc.

I have had chronic issues with ignition mechanism (have to jiggle/flip key to get it to physically turn). So I’m thinking this is related?

Issue arose when I tried to start it and for a split second it had power (noise when turning key) then just stopped abruptly. Nothing since. It’s like it’s a fuse or something? Ignition switch?

I'm puzzled there is no power (lights, horn, etc.) when key is turned with good battery (just had it checked and charged!).

check your fuses do you have a multi meter? check your main ground wires at the base of the dipstick for bad contact

 

Here's a great principle to follow that will save you a lot of frustration:

Fix Known Problems First.

1. You know your ignition switch is bad.
2. It's a prime suspect for this kind of problem.
3. Fix it.

Then see where you are.

Since it's free and not difficult, it can't hurt to check your battery cables and connections, too.

Turns out it was the starter. Replaced and everything is good.
