people being lazy and cluttering up the forum is the reason alot of us even have accounts on pirate
I couldn't agree with this more, it seems like in the past 2 months or so the fab section has just been bombarded with BS threads that have absolutely nothing to do with fabrication. I created a account on pirate just because of this reason, this is a great forum but when you go to a certain section(fab in this case) and on the first page there is more "moved" threads than actuall fabrication threads.

Truer words have never been spoken! I have to deal with this crap every single day! I bet I get 50 calls a day at my desk from the floor about something that I highlighted in a drawing that they can't get right...

Not everyone is on your level of skill and to them that wood box that took them all day to build is something they are proud of and who are we to say they can't share it. This is a public forum and anyone should be welcome.
We should make a "Small Boat Fabrication" forum too.

What does this have to do with anything? What depends on how good you are?... and where did fiberglass come from?

I'm sure it makes perfect sense if I knew who you were talking to. Does your little phone app thingy not have a quote button? Just curious.

Instead of all the *****ing, how about just making the fab section moderator approved threads only.

As in you make the thread and submit it, and it wont be visible to the public till a mod approves.

Because prople don't read the stickies, so the irrelevant threads will never stop. No matter how many complaining threads you make

Also splitting up the fab section into 5 different category's will just make it into even more work and I would not be surprised at all if things still got posted in the wrong section.
People do it all the time all over the entire site itself. I'm away's finding tech questions in places you would not think you would find them. Like in "write up submissions" or COTM and so on. I've seen retards use the report button to ask tech questions LOL!!
This is just another one of those rant threads that go nowhere IMHO.

That's the way we have it set up on our local club forum. It helps keep the drama/idiot levels down.

This would just be a band aid. It wouldn't stop anyone from submitting junk threads. All it would do is force the moderators to read EVERYTHING increasing their work load.

I'm surprised people aren't understanding the point I'm trying to drive at. We need to fix the root cause of the issue and stop trying to band-aid it with stickies and approved submissions. The fact of the matter is that the way the fab section is setup, it's not titled appropriately. That's the root cause.

I'm not trying to just whine, I'm trying to get the attention of the moderators and drum up some support to fix this place up right. We need to get some ideas out there and put something into place that will work the BEST (note: not PERFECT.)

Like I said earlier, we can't fix it 100%, but if we can fix 90% of it, the fab section will be a MUCH happier place for everyone.

It would keep junk from being published. I would call that more than a band aid.

You can title sections however you want. There will still be people who wont pay attention

Sure, but then the good posts don't get published either because the Moderators can't keep up. Then we just took a step backwards. I've submitted a couple thread in the how-to section, and it took a week or two before they finally got moved into the section.

Did you read the last sentence of my post? Just to be sure go back and read it again. lol Having one tenth of the unrelated posts would be a lot better than all of them. Do you disagree?

I must say, this has been an interesting read. Fab sections on off-road forums are generally understood to be focused on things custom made (not modified) from metal. A "fab questions" sub-forum may not be a bad idea, but I especially like the moderator approved fab section. I know it sounds like a little more work for the mods, but in all reality, it would probably be much, much less considering all the crap that they're having to clear up right now.
