im new at this building a cherokee. i bought a cherokee on 38's and im gonna start with the axles. but i dont know which axles i should get
any suggestions?

 

just curious if you have 44s why would you start with the axles?

..and also what cherokee ever came stock with front and rear d44s?

 

Yeah, that thing does not have stock axles

 

Your specs say D44 axles. How do you know that's what you have?

 

I just ordered the nitro axles with the nitro 300m joints axles have a 10 year no ? Asked warranty and the u joints have a lifetime no? Asked warranty i gave 710 to the door. I am running 39.5 iroks so for me it was more of an investment.

First off... a Cherokee on 38s?!?!?! What the hell for!?!?

And the only options for you with those are 1 tons or Rockwells.

look into swapping dana 60/14bolt combo.

even a built dana 44 is only good for 37's......i broke countless front shafts when i was running 39.5 iroks on a front d44, and even a few on 37'' mtrs.

 

duh.....cause you can....... i ran 42's on one for a couple months. not your bag of chips, but some of us like to drive over vw sized boulders.

 

I didnt plan on going to 39.5 s but i got a set for a steal so why not give with a try. We for the axles alot has to do with how you drive and what situations you put yourself in. By the way i plan on breakin stuff but i just downsized from a blazer with 44" swampers and had good luck both with the axles and the service when i sent them in to get replaced, i only broke two and that was a heavy drunk foot trying to bounce my way up a hill.

I am new to the rock crawling/trail riding scene, the blazer started out as a mud racer and then converted over to a over built trail rig, that led me to the rock crawling in which in my opinion I was way overpowered for the type of wheeling I like to do which is more crawling and less of the point and hope for the best. That led to a samurai which is all the way on the other end of the spectrum which I built as far as I could without moving the axles and cutting up a rust free vehicle. That led to the sale of the samurai and buying two cherokees one for my 15 year old son and one for myself. Mine is capable but I am looking for the best machine to fit my needs and driving style and to be honest I think i found it in the xj. The moral is these vehicles are never done and you will always break stuff and you will always build sometimes bigger but always better rigs so look at your budget and your needs and see what matches, there are not a lot of people building there own rigs that do everything right the first time. So do your research, pick a direction, and start building. Sorry for the long drawn out response. Good luck.
