I know this is grave digging but great thread! It's been a while since I've been on here and I'm starting to work on my current Cherokee and this gave me some great ideas. Keep it up!
Maybe it’s something in the PNW water, but, I too have a S&R Jeep rebuild. I’m in Seattle and picked up a used one. A Well-used one. 1997. 196k. Turns out, there was a Frisco butt-load of things gone south, with this rig. I shoulda walked, but...
it still had big ol’ numbers on the roof, so as to be identified from the air and mounting terminals for the radio antennae that poked along the roof, as well. I couldn’t get it smogged because the tail pipe had rotted away from the muffler. The heater core was leaking into the cabin and the suspension was worn the hell out. It was a government Jeep and was abused accordingly. Like a rented mule.
That was then...5 years ago.
What’s new?
Exhaust system: Magnaflow high-flow cat with Flowmaster exhaust, connected to PaceSetter performance header and an improved high-flow intake/exhaust manifold from a ‘99.
K&N cold intake with bored throttle body. Head was decked and re-valved. High-flow waterpump, thermostat housing and 3-row aluminum radiator. Front and rear end rebuilt.
Heater core and A/C compressor and condenser. Starter. New carpet and headliner. Tinted windows back of driver and passenger.
All new suspension parts and bushings. Steering box replaced, upgraded antisway bars, front and rear, with urethane bushings. Upgraded upper and lower control arms, coil springs and Rancho shocks and a 2.5 lift with 30” Goodyear All Terrains and Rockcrawler steel rims. Steering dampener, Rear leaf springs, rated at 750lbs.
New, white paint.
I’m not planning on crawling. This is a road warrior. It’s built to tow, if it does anything. I’ve driven her from Seattle to Chula Vista, and back, twice.
One of its many features I liked from the start, is that because it’s Special Purpose XJ, it’s got an idle booster that kicks up the RPM, just a tad, to keep lights and radios running when at some incident or another. It also comes with an HO alternator and the towing package. I plan on adding some lumens next.
When I can figure out how to post a photo of “Betty White”, I’ll show the ol’ girl off.

Well I guess this is the last chapter of Rich live shots Search and rescue 95 Cherokee. December 31, 2019 I am officially retired from search & rescue. Currently wondering what I should do as far as selling my jeeps. Don’t really use them anymore. Not really sure what to ask for them. And it looks like I waited too long to ask any of my old friends from the jeep Cherokee forum.

damned dead threads. I read a library book once that was missing the last couple of pages, same thing.
