Default I ripped out the trailer hitch...

So my friend got stuck in mud and I had to pull him out with my hitch and then all of the mounts on the left side ripped out. How should I install a new trailer hitch? Or at least cover it up for inspection?

And then buy a set of nutstrips, which appear to have been missing. Atleast on that side.

Makes you wonder what other structural components are compromised under there. Your state makes you have your frame inspected?

If the chassis isn't inspected, what is? Generally curious.

That is the one thing they don't do here in CT. We just have emissions testing. We used to have the any car that is 10 years or older when you buy one and need to get plates car inspection here at the DMV. But they did away with that a long time ago.
Technically you could be driving the biggest unsafest piece of junk here and as long as it passes emissions nobody seems to care.

Can't see the link though. Something about it being locked for security rules.

Oh I did forget that if you do get pulled over by a cop for a traffic violation and he notices safety issues with the vehicle then you have to fix what is wrong and get it inspected.
Never been through that so I don't know if they just make sure whatever the cop noticed has been fixed or go to town and inspect everything.

I am going to send you a PM.

Get the nut strips to mount the hitch better, they wont pull through the unibody. as for the mangled metal...rear frame stiffeners seem to be the best bet. i repaired some rust on mine with them. https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/prod...r-section.html

Last I knew, PA was a stickler on rust for any hole that penetrated the cabin area due to the possibility of getting exhaust fumes into the cabin. I can't see them not worrying about structural integrity.

True,
although there are holes in this part of the body from the factory, these ones are definitely in need of repair. Nothing in this area goes to the passenger compartment so thats not an issue, but the blown out holes are gonna catch the inspectors eye. heres the only pic i have of the frame stiffeners on my xj. easy to install, seam seal, and paint.

Yes, PA is very picky on rust and definitely checks the chassis (obvious holes like those will fail, and they generally do the "screwdriver test" on rusty areas that don't have holes and if the screwdriver goes through it fails) as well as the body.

Here's the full PA inspection manual (refer to subchapter E for cars and light trucks, p34 for chassis standards and p41 for specific chassis related inspection procedures):http://www.dot.state.pa.us/public/dv...ons/PUB-45.pdf

From P34 of the manual chassis regulations:

(d) Flooring and Floor Beds - Flooring and floor beds shall be of a construction to support occupants and cargo

(e) Bumpers - A vehicle specified under this subchapter shall be equipped with bumpers of a type used as

original equipment, or suitable replacement which is equal to or greater in strength than that provided by the

(1) A bumper shall be of at least equi valent strength and mounting as the original equip ment.

(2) No portion of a bumper may be broken, torn or protruding to create a hazard.

(3) A bumper may not extend beyond the body line or be longer than original equipment, which ever is

ground level.

(6) Some part of the main horizontal bumper bar on multipurpose passenger vehicles and light trucks shall
