My though was there are no rocks in that soil for the roots to wrap around and there doesn't seem to be a big root system attached to it anyway. Not putting your 4.0 down, BTW. Were you using low range?

Not a whole lot of rocks here, thankfully. I was using the part-time 4WD - low to start, but eventually got it when accidentally using the higher option. Not sure why, but I'm guessing the low loosened it?
I did all the climbing haha. Tree had needlecast that I didn't want spreading, so I was in a bit of a hurry to get the branches off before it started raining this year. Left the bases of the branches to make climbing easy later in case I couldn't pull it out.

That's an idea, I don't know what else I'd do with it. Just throw it on the roof rack and drive it down to a lumber yard haha.
I've been wanting to learn some woodworking though. I have no idea what types of wood are good for furniture, but if I could turn that into something useful, that'd be awesome.

Talk to the forestry department at your local university for a field trip to look at it or take some needles and cones to them. I'm assuming it's the same as that group at the end of the property. It's probably soft pine which isn't too good for furniture but makes good construction lumber. The British liked them for ship masts because they had the flexibility to not snap easily. You should talk to a sawmill.

I pulled a 34' motorhome out with my old 2000 XJ. It was stuck in the sand, and it wouldn't budge. Low Range, and it popped it right out. I wish I had a picture!

Somewhere in the internet, there's a picture of an XJ helping to pull a loaded moving company 18-wheeler out of the snow! Priceless!
