First XJ, gunmetal metallic 98 sport 4x4, 198k on clock. Bought from a co-worker after her two daughters had driven it through high school, paid $1000 with NO rust. Few cosmetics to fix, but runs like a champ.

First XJ for me. 2000 2WD Limited 206,000 miles cold AC. Everything stock except stereo. Driver side leather cracked and dings on hood and driver side door. Front bumper pushed in slightly from running in to pole in a parking lot. No rust but paint fading from cowl, fender flares and rear bumper. Runs great but had to replace tires. Keeping it stock for the most part. Using as daily driver and some light gravel/dirt when camping or trail riding. $1900 + 500(tires)= $2400. Was a 20 year YJ veteran but loving this XJ.
I traded an 02 Honda Accord with 240K for my 89 with just as many miles (a lot more now) my wife didn't like the idea at first but now she absolutely loves all the places I take her in the xj that we never could have gone in the Honda lol
$2500
1996
140,000
Zero rust
Excellent condition, Stock
$800 1996
137k of road tires and rims with 5th rim and tire.
Guy in VA got busted on a DUI lost his license and to pay off the fines have it to me for 800 with a full tank of gas. stright 6 four door 4x4 with front and back hitch and front winch.

Reason: Expanding
Damn, I need to move or something. XJ's around my parts are expensive! Granted, I am hoping to find something on the mint side of things with some mods.
Has anybody ever paid $6-7 grand on one? What did it have?
Got my 89 Wagoneer for $200 with a blown head gasket. Mechanical repairs with valve job, radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, and upgraded to electric cooling fan ran me another $1200.

I did a while back. Came bone stock great condition with 100k 4x4, color I wanted, tcase I wanted, privacy glass, and agate interior, 8.25 rear axle and good paint.
2000 2WD bought with 184k on 6/1/16. Almost perfect interior and decent exterior. Zero rust (Florida car). Paid $2,500 but had to replace the cracked head. I took a gamble and lost in that regard. It's almost at 190k and I can't believe how good it runs.
just bought a 98 ZJ Limited (5.2) for 2500 - only had 96k miles. totally stock.
Fixed so far - water pump - died on the way home. New tires all the way around, and a new battery. replaced the lights (I hate it when they fade and that toothpaste trick only does so much), and next up is the headliner... Not bad for a cheap vehicle to run my dogs around in.
Just got my first XJ (to use as a winter car for my other XJ - 2008 Jaguar that is). A 2001 60th Anniversary Edition with 165K for $2500. Needs new tires but my mechanic has been servicing it for the past 5 years and says it is a solid car. When I first saw it, it was up on a lift so I saw the bottom first. No rust underneath and only some surface rust around the back door sills. Never off road and the body is straight. Everything is bone stock and the A/C blows really cold.
Now I drive both ends of the XJ spectrum!

Sounds like a good buy especially since you've got some history on it. Here is a thread you may want to browse through since this concerns your year XJ. Good chance your mechanic is already aware of it.
Think this rig is worth the asking price? 2000 Freedom Edition, low miles, immaculate... If I make an offer, what would y'all suggest starting at? This thing's gorgeous.

have you actually seen it or are you going off pictures? I wouldn't dare make an offer, especially with that asking price, without testing it out first.
