Yeah I had to replace them on my silver 4.7 Jeep to get it to pass inspection, $80 a pop, and did manage to get it to pass but the light came back on for some 02 related issue but by then I didn't care, I'd bought it for $650 and decided to sell it and got $1700 for it then got the brown one for $1500 , with new tires, maintenance records, four mounted studded snows, jl audio door speakers and two amps to run them. I made out and the guy that bought my silver Jeep loves it. Win win.
BTW, I just discovered there IS a roll-over valve on the Grand Cherokee. It's mounted on the tank to prevent fuel from draining out the vent line in a roll-over and is not serviceable. If it's bad, you replace the tank! IDK how you'd discover it's bad unless you rolled the jeep, though. Let's not EVEN go there!
Yeah dave didn't we just have a talk about that and someone else said jeeps don't have one.I have yet to see anything with fuel injection didn't have some kinda roll over valve because it will still run upside down where a carb won't.
I just ran my VIN thru the Bosch website and got part numbers but they didn't ask me if I have CA emissions or not so, do I assume it doesn't matter as long as they are plugged into the original wiring? I also ran the Mopar part numbers and they've got them at $80 a piece! The Bosch from Rockauto are only $35 each. The only difference is the Bosch upstream sensors have 18" leads and the Mopar have 10.5" leads.
The stress of getting this done in 17 days AND working is getting to me! I'm half tempted to whip out the credit card and take it to the dealer. Please try to talk me out of it! It's been so frickin' hot after about 9 AM that I sort of melt and don't want to work on the jeep. I've got to go to my mechanic and ask him what I should do. All of July was drier than a popcorn fart, but now it feels like I'm living in a jungle swamp!
I hear ya there, I work in a garage and we have ONE ceiling fan for cooling purposes, not helpful at all. Then there are like some sort of protected wet lands behind the garage, God knows how large it is but that only adds to the humidity... that, coupled with the fact that I'm working on hot engines all day, it sucks. But, I'm still not sure about the 02 heater thing. Like I said, I still had that come up with brand new sensors. Not right away but not too long after I changed them either. Ill poke around and see if I can get some info
OKAY!! Update on my I/M monitors. After 2 drive cycles, the 02 heaters cleared themselves. Now I only have the EVAP "not ready" so I can get it to pass inspection! I'll deal with that later. I think it's the steel vent pipe underneath next to the brake pipe that I just replaced. BTW, if you need to replace any brake pipes, use the cupro-nickel tubing. It's so much easier to work with and won't rust!
We just tonight had a storm system come thru with a super-cell that generated 3 water spouts and a small tornado over Oneida Lake. There were microbursts that destroyed trees near me and torrential rain with lightening. Word has it that 2000 customers were without power. When delivering my newspapers, I had to dodge tree limbs and other debris in the road. Most of the traffic lights were out and just flares lighting up the intersections.

Glad you got it to work out on the 02 sensors. Yeah, storm was bad and we lost power for nearly 22 hours. I made the best of it and answered my wheeling question...I brought the blue Jeep to my cousins that lives in the woods...
Hello from the XJ Cherokee world. Buying one of two Grand Cherokees tomorrow and could use some opinions on which.
1) 2000 WJ 4.0 L. 242 transfer case. 195,000 miles. Clean inside and out, decent condition underneath. Runs and drives good, good tires, claims to be well maintained. Price $2,000 firm. Adult owned.
Said to have oil pressure of 5 psi at hot idle. Mechanical oil gauge is installed. High flow oil pump has been installed. (in pictures it is the second set, with roof basket, blue body).
2) 2004 WJ 4.7 L Quadra-Trac 145,000 miles. Silver. Asking $1500. Needs set of tires and to reattach bumper.
One owner. Lived in salt-air since new (at beach). Window trim is rusting and blossoming, rust-water runoff under rear view mirrors. Underneath is in fair condition. Some rust splotches but the metal still has integrity. Floor pans are good. Runs and drives good..
My use will be mainly a daily driver, I have a six year old boy. Hoping to get 5 years out of vehicle. Pictures attached.
Thank You

I have had four two 8's and two sixes. One 8 selec-trac, one quatra, loved both 4.7 Jeeps but they aren't the best on fuel, and I understand that the 8 isn't as sturdy as the 6 as far as how long they'll run for but as with anything, if it's taken care of, it should be fine. That being said, would u be needing the extra power of the 8 or would the six be fine? Then comes the issue of the oil pressure? Could be scary but could be a short... mine wanders all over on my six and my v8 Thunderbird it used to drop to nothing d scare the he'll out of me, come to find out it was just the wire wasn't clipped tight enough to the sensor. So, I guess, think about if it's gonna just be a commuter vehicle or u maybe want to tow with it and all.

No towing.
The 2000 with the 4.0 has a mechanical oil gauge added because the stock one acted funny. The mechanical gauge reads 5 psi hot idle. Jeep is clean but has 195,000 miles.
I've seen the 4.0 Jeeps at well over 300k my first Jeep had the 4.0 and had 245,000 on it and ran like new, sadly it was rotted all out underneath so we sold it and got the first 4.7 we had...got that CHEAP, fixed the 02 sensors, got it inspected and made a grand on it. Guy still has it and loves it. The 4.7 we have now is our daily and that has 219,400 on it, again, I'd drive it anywhere. My current 4.0 ive never had on the road yet, but that runs mint as well. Has 180,000 on it. I plan on beating the hell out of it but I know I'll get years of enjoyment out if it. The 4.7's I've heard aren't as trustworthy but the oil issue on the 4.0 does have me worried for you. I don't really want to steer you in any wrong direction. Id say, if the 4.7 runs well and the body is fairly clean of rust, maybe that's a good option. As long as you don't mind the gas consumption. Doesn't have a ton of miles so if it's well cared for it'll last a while. Both my 4.7 Jeeps had over 200k on them and are still running strong.
